This year, I've chosen to spotlight some of the remarkable individuals I have the privilege of working with, and I am excited to finish off this year with someone who recently achieved a physical milestone that reflects all the hard work she has done. You may recognize this person from all my website and marketing material because she was one of my first Better In Motion fitness models! She was also an original Small Group member, back when there was only one group. It is my pleasure to share with you now Joyce Jelinek, an inspiring example of resilience, commitment, and vibrant heart health.
1. Can you tell everyone a little about yourself? (Name, age, where you live…)
My name is Joyce Jelinek. I am 78 years old. My husband and I have 4 adult children and 9 grandchildren. I retired 14 years ago from teaching after a 28-year teaching career. I retired to take care of my grandchildren. I live in Wheat Ridge just a few houses away from Liz.
2. What brought you to working out with Better In Motion, and how has that impacted your life?
I met Liz about 5 years ago walking in our neighborhood. I had been wanting to find someone who knew about nutrition and could help me improve my health. In meeting Liz, I found much more. Liz was starting her Better in Motion program and invited me to her classes of strengthening and cardio workouts. I had never in my 30 years of jogging been to a gym to work out. Liz’s classes were personal and wonderful.
My knees stopped hurting me, and my back got stronger, and I had less sciatica. My body was healing and getting healthier with Better In Motion. Just this month, my nuclear stress test for my artery calcification showed that my cardio activity was 111 percent of someone my age! I give Liz and her classes credit for this super score of heart activity.
3. Can you share any significant moments or memories while doing Small Group Training? Or enjoyable moments?
Our small group sessions are so fun. I never knew that working out could be enjoyable WORK. Liz often sets a theme, and the routines leave you energized and tired. I look forward to going and have made friends with those in our group. We laugh a lot at our mistakes and applaud each other as we improve!
4. Is there anything else you’d like to share or any advice you have for others?
I never thought of myself as a gym-type person or even someone who would join a class, but this is different!! I can’t explain it, but I look forward to class, to our group, and to Liz, who makes all the difference! Come see us! We are a good time! 😊
